Install FreeDOS

  • After a reboot the new FreeDOS 1.2 installer asks us what to do.

  • Choose "Install to harddisk".

  • After the installation please leave the CD-ROM connected to the virtual machine and reboot. In the next window choose "Boot from system harddisk".

FreeDOS 1.2 boots for the first time.

Now start up the graphical package installer.

It will detect the CD-ROM and show you additional packages that can be installed.

Choose a category on the left and programs on the right.

Update FreeDOS

As soon as the network is up and running (see next chapter), please check if there are already updates for your FreeDOS programs.

  • Start the FreeDOS package manager FDNPKG.
fdnpkg update

Congratulations! You have successfully installed FreeDOS in VirtualBox.
